This appendix summarizes the ranking criteria from Appendix 5 for each of the following 11 ecological systems that BLM selected:
Colorado Plateau Hanging Garden, Colorado Plateau Mixed Bedrock Canyon and Tableland, Colorado Plateau Pinyon-Juniper Shrubland, Colorado Plateau Pinyon-Juniper Woodland, Inter-Mountain Basins Big Sagebrush Shrubland, Inter-Mountain Basins Mixed Salt Desert Scrub, Inter-Mountain Basins Semi-desert Grassland, Rocky Mountain Alpine-Montane Wet Meadow, Rocky Mountain Gambel Oak-Mixed Montane Shrubland, Rocky Mountain Lower Montane Riparian Woodland and Shrubland, Rocky Mountain Subalpine-Montane Fen.
Ranking criteria are indicators for the condition, landscape context, and size of systems in that priority order. NatureServe and Heritage programs (e.g., Colorado Natural Heritage Program) use these indicators to rank systems as follows:
A: Excellent estimated viability,
B: Good estimated viability,
C: Fair estimated viability, and
D: Poor estimated viability.
BLM and other agencies can use these indicators to inform desired conditions for systems, potential area-wide lease stipulations or use restrictions, and vegetation and fire management plans and activities.
