DESCRIPTION
This appendix summarizes information about the areas of ecological importance (TNC conservation areas) in the San Juan Planning Area. These areas include the ecoregional conservation areas that The Nature Conservancy identifies in its Colorado Plateau and Southern Rocky Mountains Ecoregional Assessments (see Chapter V). There are at least two potential uses for these areas in the Resource Management Plan/Environmental Impact Statement: Include them in the Affected Environment chapter and assess impacts to them in the Environmental Impacts chapter; and/or use them as the basis for management “zones” (e.g., areas open to leasing vs. areas of conditional use) or special management areas (e.g., Areas of Critical Environmental Concern) for alternatives in the RMP/EIS.
