Prioritiy sites for restoration of winter habitat for Sitka black-tailed deer were identified as young-growth forests (of human origin) that are >25 years old at low elevation (<500') with southerly or westerly exposure (135 - 315 deg.). In addition, areas where such stands occupy >75% of all productive forest lands within a circular area of 100 hectares (approx. deer home range) represent high priority opportunities for restoration treatments.
