DESCRIPTION
This map is based on the Tongass Resource Use Cooperative Survey (TRUCS). Each respondent was asked to identify areas where they had ever hunted deer. TRUCS combined these data into a relative index of use for each community. To evaluate combined use among all communities, we developed an index weighted by the population size of each community. In this way, the combined index is representative of all local subsistence users. Data on population was obtained form the ADF&G Community Profile Database. Statistics on deer harvest represent the total for both subsistence and sport harvest during 1987 - 2004.
