Our Program:

The TNC Conservation Science Internship Program seeks to enrich and diversify the field of nature conservation through paid internship opportunities to students currently underrepresented in the conservation field. Interns work with a dedicated and committed mentor to meet immediate science and stewardship needs in The Nature Conservancy, while gaining real-life conservation work experience. Interns also acquire skills beneficial to a conservation career, develop a support network within the conservation community, and learn about potential conservation careers.

Background:

The Conservation Science Internship Program helps TNC and the conservation community gain science capacity while at the same time reaching new audiences, enhancing human diversity in conservation, training future conservationists, and building a strong and diverse future workforce. The Program began as a pilot program in 2007, with ten interns. Thanks to this first internship cohort, the summer was a great success, even resulting in five students being accepted to present the results of their internship projects at the 2008 Society for Conservation Biology Annual International Meeting. Throughout this first year the power of internships - for both students and for TNC - has become evident; student lives and perspectives have changed and for many, conservation careers are now a reality. TNC has gained valuable information, additional university ties, and an enhanced pool of potential recruits. We're still learning and the program continues to involve. Please join us in our learning odyssey - everyone is needed to protect the life of our planet!
