Bio

Dan has been excited about being out side since he was a child playing in the dirt and visiting, among other remarkable natural features, the Tall Grass Prairies Preserve in the state he was born Oklahoma.   Listening to songs about the range and buffalo were always of interest to Dan as he was a child transplanted to the east coast from the heartland.  It was most likely during those influential years where a seed was planted which has sprouted into a strong desire to better understand the links between food production and biodiversity habitat.  While studying Natural Resources at the University of Vermont, this was a piece of his focus which more fully encompassed increasing his understanding of the socio-ecological interactions at a community level.  In 2007 Dan graduated with a BS in Natural Resources.  His next step was a quick stint in Seattle to intern with TNC and then back to Vermont to work for the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps.

Thoughts about being a conservation science intern

"The internship was an overall success with a host of networking opportunities and superb chapter staff who mentored me through the experience with new employee brown bag lunches, science meetings and donor parties.  Visiting project sites was fantastic; especially seeing a Vertol heavy lift helicopter drop 1,000 lbs anchors into nearshore habitat for a restoration project and then getting the chance to help on the ground once all of the airlifting was done."
