Juan Pablo during his biological inventory work on coffee plantations in the buffer zone of the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve
Bio
Juan Pablo has been interested in animals, nature, and conservation since as long as he can remember. He has conducted biological field work in several different regions from San Diego, CA, to Sonora, Mexico, to Costa Rica. He also has a strong interest in designing and implementing conservation projects and monitoring programs, community-based conservation, design and management of natural protected areas, figuring out mechanisms to make different stakeholders be strong supporters of conservation, and many other topics. He graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a BS in Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution and a minor in Political Science, and came to the The Program the summer in between his MS in Sustainable Development and Conservation Biology at the University of Maryland. When he's not studying or working, he's hiking, birding, or watching cartoons.
Thoughts about being a Conservation Science Intern
"I met fantastic people and made great professional contacts, learned a great deal about how TNC functions on its own and in relation to other organizations, the work was important and interesting, and Chiapas was absolutely amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better experience."
