Fire has historically been a naturally occurring disturbance throughout many parts of the world, but the frequency of fire in ecosystems world-wide has been altered due to human management. The Zumwalt Prairie is an ecosystem that is adapted to frequent fire, which is why it is important to understand its ecological role. TNC is studying different combinations of fire and grazing to learn more about their effects on biodiversity.
