Session v: statistical approaches and field sampling design
Researchers frequently use lattice models when modeling spatial correlation among objects such as geographic regions. First, I discuss lattice models in general, then show examples of several commonly-used lattice models. Then I focus on the Conditional Autoregression model (CAR). I describe some common errors that occur when CAR models are used for prediction, show the likelihood and prediction equations. Finally I discuss strategies for sampling objects and comparing them with the CAR model predictions to validate the model.
