This 5 day course is geared for scientists, future GIS analysts, and conservation practitioners interested in using GIS for a particular project or integrating it into their day-to-day work.
The course consists of lectures on concepts in GIS, and step-by-step tutorials in ArcGIS 9. Topics covered include an overview of GIS for conservation and the GIS project cycle, GIS concepts, analysis and geoprocessing, GPS data collection, introduction to raster analysis, and cartography. The course posted here was given to conservation practitioners from Tanzania and Mozambique in September 2009. The course was led by the World Wildlife Fund and Universidade Eduardo Mondlane with support from the US Fish and Wildlife Service, ESRI, and the Nature Conservancy.
