DESCRIPTION
Bird distribution is closely associated with habitat and therefore having some measure and understanding of habitat extent, distribution and quality is important. Understanding the relationship between a species and its habitat is fundamental to beginning to determine its status and plan conservation action. Information on species and habitats is also essential for the development of management plans which should be produced for all sites regardless of their designated status. This talk provides an introduction to broad and fine scale habitat studies, including what factors and features to consider including in your study and sources of information on habitat (maps, aerial photos, satellite images, etc.). Uses, advantages and disadvantages of these maps are discussed. Equipment used to measure habitat is also described.
