DESCRIPTION
This talk provides an introduction to monitoring West Indian Whistling-Ducks (WIWDs). There are special considerations when monitoring crepuscular or nocturnal species. Three protocols are described for monitoring WIWDs in the Caribbean: point counts with playback, modified Caribbean Water Census methodology (conducting counts at dusk), and WIWD simultaneous census, used successfully in Antigua for 6 years.
