Fsicamente tambin es difcil diferenciarlos.-Uno de los participantes argument que es mejor separarlos, para manejarlos ms especficamente.-Es probable que en el futuro, con ms informacin y profundidad en el manejo convenga seapararlos. -Guayacn (Guaicum sactum)-Tuna (Opuntia guatemalensis)-Aripn-Yaje (Leucaena spp.)-El monte espinoso seco es el sistema ms amenazado, por tanto debe ser prioridad geogrfica en su conservacin.-Que las ocurrencias que se escojan contengan las especies ms amenzadas, como Pereskia y otras cactceas. SITIOS MEJOR CONSERVADOS (consultar los mapas):1) Serrana al norte de Guastatoya2) Tulumaje3) Cerro La Pigua4) Parte baja ro Santiago5) El CapulnEl sistema est muy fragmentado. Debemos tratar de conservar las mejores ocurrencias, y adicionalmente, mejorar la conservacin del sistema en general. Se sugiri agregar entre Cabaas y la carretera a San Diego.Comunidades de roble (robledal-Bucida macrostachya):-Se discuti si es importante incluirlo, por ser una asociacin. Entonces se podra argumentar si no se debera de incluir otras asociaciones. 2) Bosque de galera: es importante por ser fuente de alimento para fauna, corredor y reserva de agua.-Los bosques de galera de Ro Hondo eran sauces. Se argument que cambi favorablemente porque ahora proveen de alimentos para la fauna. Es posible que queda bosque natural de galera en suelos pobres, aunque se dispersa en forma natural el mango y el flamboyn.-Evaluar el rol ecolgico de los huertos frutales, como fuente de alimento, refugio y corredor.-Se discuti si su viabilidad no saldra en mal estado, al ser un sistema muy intervenido.SITIOS MEJOR CONSERVADOS (consultar los mapas):1) Ro San Pablo, hacia los bosques de La Unin2) Ro Uys3) Ro Hondo3) Sistema acutico fluvial:-Importante por la biodiversidad acutica.-No hay especies endmicas.-Amenazado por la construccin de hidroelctricas.-Hay ros que ahora se secan, que antes eran permanentes. Ha afectado el uso agrcola, y uso domstico, y en menor grado la deforestacin.-Evaluar el estado de conservacin de la laguna de Cabaas y la de Estanzuela.-El hecho de que hay ros que se secan no disminuye su importancia biolgica.*Se ubicaron todos los ros principales de la zona semirida, especialmente los de caudal permanente, incluyendo el ro Motagua. Las reas ashuradas indican cauces interrumpidos por hidroelctricas o diversin para riego. *Se debera de evaluar el estado de conservacin del ro Motagua, que puede ser importante para el movimiento de peces e invertebrados. 4) Especies vegetales amenazadas: -Incluyen: Bromelias (5 especies, especialmente Tillandsia xerographica, T. harrisi, T. ionantha, T. paucifolia, T. pseudobaileyi), estn amenazadas por la extraccin comercial. Todas dependen de bosque seco maduro. La T. harrisi es endmica del departamento de Zacapa, y se ubica entre 300-1600 msnm, en paredones rocososos. Se ha visto en las cuencas del Teculutn, Jones.-Es un negocio de varios millones de dlares al ao.Se ha concentrado el mercado en pocos comerciantes..-Cactceas (4-5 especies), Agaves, Guayacn, Acacia drani, estn amenazadas por prdida de hbitat.-Extraccin comercial de Cephalocereus, Mamalaria, Melocactus. Algunos estn siendo cultivados. Todoas las cactceas son fuente importante de alimento para vertebrados. Nyctocereus no es muy atractivo comercialmente, por la abundancia de espinas.. *No fue posible ubicarlas cartogrficamente por falta de informacin. Tillandsia xerographica:-Se encuentra en el monte espinoso y el bosque seco. Es de distribucin restringida en Amrica Central norte.-Mucha presin por extraccin comercial.-Buena indicadora, fcil de medir y estudiar.-Indica el estado de la cobertura pues depende de sus hospederos arbreos.5) Especies migratorias altitudinales:-Incluye murcilagos, aves y mamferos.-Los murcilagos son importantes para la dispersin y polinizacin de semillas. Hay 17 especies de murcilagos en el rea.-Enfatizar en la proteccin de unas pocas especies.-Adicionalmente indica la conectividad altitudinal entre diferentes tipos de bosques.*Este elemento no se pudo ubicar cartogrficamente por falta de informacin. Esto se podra realizar con investigacin sobre el movimiento altitudinal de ciertas especies, con radiotelemetra.6) Especies de fauna endmicas amenazadas: Heloderma horridum charlesburgerti (Escorpin o Monstruo de Gila):-Especie muy rara. Se ha reportado en la parte baja de Gualn, Cabaas.-Comen huevos, pichones, ratones. -Hacen cuevas en las quebradas secas e intermitentes. -Hay un espcimen en el Museo de Biologa de la USAC, zollgico La Aurora, Autosafari Chapn-Mordedura venenosa.-Hay otras dos subespecies, y una de ellas se encuentra en el bosque seco de Nentn, y en la parte seca del resto de la cuenca del ro Grijalva.-No hay muchos registros en el lado norte del valle del Motagua. Se hareportado en la serrana al norte de Guastatoya (cerro La Virgen).-SE RECOMIENDA COMO UN TEMA DE INVESTIGACIN PRIORITARIO.-Ctnosaura palearis (shero o jiote pequeo, garrobo pequeo): es una iguana. Se considera importante porque puede ser una especie clave, al ser uno de los principales depredadores. Son omnvoros (carroa, huevos, insecots, semillas, frutas). Es de distribucin restringida al bosque seco del Motagua y en Honduras.-Tortuga terrestre/de agua dulce (Rynochlemis pocorremia) en buena parte de Guatemala, pero una cuarta parte de los registros provienen del valle del Motagua. Se encuentran dos poblaciones, la mayor entre Ro HOndo y Satna CRuz,m y ortra cerca de Jones, en formaciones secas. Muchos mueres al cruzar las carreteras cuando llueves, que estn ms activas.
