All,
A new version of the CAP workbook – version 6b – has been posted on ConserveOnline at the CAP Resources page. It is fully updated in English and Spanish.
As of 29 July 2009, ConPro reads and creates data packs for this version of the workbook only. Both version 6b and 5a will be available and supported for the time being; however, please switch to version 6b!
(Version 5a is in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian. Unless you require either Portuguese or Russian, please use version 6b!)
To learn what’s new, you can download a presentation of version 6b (.ppt file) as well a a summary of the great new features (.pdf file).
You can also download a WebEx recording of a demo of Excel 2007 and the new v6b CAP workbook.* It isn’t a polished recording but it contains a complete overview of what’s new. (Note: The audio is weak so I suggest that you use headphones and turn up the volume. Also, skip the first 1:55 of the 67 minute recording.)
For complete guidance, the CAP Workbook User Manual (English) (pdf file) has been fully updated for the new version 6b.I encourage you to:
Best regards,
Warren Lockwood
* To play the above recording, you will need the WebEx player. Go to the NetHope Meeting Center-Support-Downloads-Recording and Playback web page and download the WebEx player for .WRF files.
Dear Warren Lockwood, I'm from Brazil and we are using the CAP Methodology for a Ecologic Station down here in the South. We're using the CAP Excel Tool v6a named "v6a_jan" and we've been having few problems that I would like to share with you. After filling the "Viability" sheet with our information, when we go to the following sheet ("Summation" viability") the classification that appears is not the correct. It is currently based on the "desired rating" instead of the "current rating". The same thing happens on "Monitoring" sheet. Does my "description" make sense? Is that a problem that has been reported for other people? How can we fix it? I would really appreciate your assistence. Please, feel free to contact me by email (cbraziliangirl@hotmail.com). Thanks! Regards from Brazil, Cecília Brosig

Hi Cecelia, In the Viability Summary table in the Σ Viability worksheet, click on cell C4. A drop-down arrow will appear where you can select either ‘Current Rating’ or ‘Desired Rating.’ Change the selection to ‘Current Rating.’ If that doesn’t fix it, then: (1) download a fresh workbook, and load your data into the new workbook, and (2) zip the problem workbook and email it to me so that I can debug the problem. Best regards, Warren Lockwood
Silvia, Thank you for your message. We do no testing of the CAP workbook on Linux. The CAP workbook makes extensive use of Visual Basic programming within Excel that, as far as I know, is only supported by Microsoft. The only way to fix this issue is to run the CAP workbook on a PC with a Microsoft operating system (XP or Vista) and Excel. Regards, Warren
Silvia, I wanted to mention that Miradi (www.miradi.org) fully supports the CAP process and runs on Windows (XP or Vista), Mac, and Linux systems. Dan
