Africa: Vulnerability, Ecosystems & Lessons Learned - New Report & Analysis

The Africa Biodiversity Collaborative Group’s recent report evaluates experiences in climate change adaptation in Africa.

Lead authors:  Anton Seimon (WCS), James Watson (WCS), Radhika Dave (CI), Elizabeth Gray (TNC) and Judy Oglethorpe (WWF-US)

The Africa Biodiversity Collaborative Group comprises seven international conservation NGOs who share the goal of working collaboratively, efficiently and effectively to further a sustainable future for the African continent.

ABCG's mission is to tackle complex and changing conservation challenges by catalyzing and strengthening collaboration, and bringing the best resources from across a continuum of conservation organizations.

The report offers a comparison of approaches and tools for adaptation utilized by ABG member organizations -- the first such analysis of a set of adaptation projects for biodiversity conservation in Africa -- and provides a comprehensive set of lessons learned and recommendations for future work on climate change adaptation for both ABCG members and the wider conservation and donor community.

Highlights:

  • Section 5 has tables that compare and evaluate member’s adaptation projects.
  • Section 6 lists key lessons learned and recommendations for adaptation in Africa regarding: project design and execution; data, analysis, and modeling; overcoming the implementation gap; project monitoring and evaluation; and working with donors.
  • Appendix 5.4 is a summary of TNC’s adaptation work
