New Defenders of Wildlife report on climate change in North Carolina

From Defenders of Wildlife:

Given the complexity and the breadth of the current science and the global nature of these issues, it can be challenging to understand how climate change may affect our cherished natural heritage.  I am therefore excited to present this report that has been prepared by Defenders of Wildlife for the

North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission:  Understanding the Impacts of Climate Change on Fish and Wildlife in North Carolina”

Gordon S. Myers, Executive Director of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission

Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to share with you this new publication from Defenders of Wildlife: Understanding the Impacts of Climate Change on Fish and Wildlife in North Carolina.  This report provides a comprehensive and up-to-date review of climate change science, specific synthesis of impacts on wildlife and habitats in North Carolina and the Southeast, a review of synergistic threats such as renewable energy development and land use change, as well as options for response through conservation planning and adaptive management.  This report was produced in close cooperation with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, and was developed as a model to inform the revision of State Wildlife Action Plans nationwide.

Wehope that this synthesis will serve as a valuable resource for our state agency partners and stakeholders as they engage in adaptation planning, and also provide a template for educating the public about the potential impacts of climate change on species and habitats of conservation concern.

Hardcopies are available but limited.

For more information contact Amielle DeWan, Director of Conservation Planning, Defenders of Wildlife.
