The Hudson River Sustainable Shorelines Project - webinar Feburary 6th
As part of an ongoing effort to provide communities with relevant information, access to expertise, and practical approaches for accommodating and adapting to coastal change, the Nature Conservancy brings you the Coastal Resilience Webinar Series. Please join us for a presentation by Betsy Blair on The Hudson River Sustainable Shoreline Project.
WHEN: February 6th (Monday) from 12:00 to 1:15pm
Betsy Blair has managed the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve’s research, education, and stewardship programs since 1985. Since 1992, she has also led habitat programs on the Hudson River Estuary and Long Island Sound, including the Sustainable Shorelines Project, and a variety of public education and outreach projects. She is a graduate of Tufts University and the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. She recently received the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Excellence Award for Ocean and Coastal Resource Management.
The Hudson River Sustainable Shorelines Project is bringing together community leaders, scientists, engineers, and natural resource managers to help people make decisions about how to manage community waterfronts, control erosion and respond to increased flooding and projected higher water levels. The project is generating information about performance, cost, and natural benefits of different shoreline management options, in the context of the Hudson River Estuary’s human and natural setting. This project is being guided by the expressed needs and interests of local governments, experts and consultants, shoreline land owners, policy-makers, and regulators. The goal of this project is to protect shorelines and associated water quality, wildlife habitat, outdoor recreation, and community quality of life for future generations.
