DESCRIPTION
The Meili Snow Mountain is one of project sites of TNC China in the northwest of Yunnan, where China Program has worked for over ten years. The project area is about 1,645 sq. km fully within the eco-region of Nujiang-Langcang Gorge alpine coniferous mixed forest (terrestrial eco-region PA0516). It is also recognized as one of core areas of The Three Parallel River World Heritage Site. Research has shown that alpine ecosystems are among some of most vulnerable ecosystems in the face of climate changes. They have a great potential to serve as early warnings indicator of climate change. Alpine ecosystems are one of the major ecosystem types in the Southwest Mountains of China, and provide great value in ecosystem service as the head river water source area. A successful CAP with climate change component of Meili Snow Mountains could serve as a model and a guideline for better protection of alpine ecosystems against climate uncertainties.
