Page Updated: September 17, 2011

Airport:  Salt Lake City is the closest airport, airport code SLC.

Airport to Hotel Transfer:  Participants who provided flight information when registering should now have shuttle information from Lynne Eder. Contact leder@tnc.org with questions or changes no later than Friday, August 28th by 3 PM EDT.  See map and directions on where to meet your shuttle upon arrival to Salt Lake City.

If you are not arriving/departing during the times we have shuttles available, you have two options to get to the Grand America Hotel.  A UTA bus leaves the airport for the City Center every 30 minutes during the day and every 60 minutes after 7:00 pm. One way fare is $1.60. Bus stops are located in the parking structure between Terminal One and Terminal Two. Limited service is available on weekends and holidays. Please follow signs at the terminal or ask for help on site if you require more information.  Option two is to take a taxi which will cost approximately $20.  The location to pick up a taxi service is clearly marked near the baggage claim areas of the terminals.

Field Trips (Optional):

Two optional field trips in Salt Lake City will be offered on August 31:

  • Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve - 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. (including travel time and lunch) - With 11 shoreline miles and more than 4,400 acres of critical wetland and upland habitat, the Preserve is located on the eastern shore of the Great Salt Lake where river runoff from the Wasatch Mountains merges with the Lake's saline waters.  A globally important and unique wildlife area, the Lake supports millions of migratory shorebirds and waterfowl in the Pacific and Central Flyways. These seasonal avian travelers rely on the wetlands for food and shelter - many gathering at the Great Salt Lake in species numbers found nowhere else on Earth. We will explore the Conservancy's suite of innovative conservation strategies, including habitat restoration at Kay's Creek, smart growth planning with Lakeside communities, outreach and education programs at the award-winning Visitor Center, and partnerships with government to pursue new numeric water quality standards - the first numeric quality standards for this saline lake.
  • Snowbird hike - 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. (including travel time) - Join Joan Degiorgio, Utah's Northern Mountains Regional Director, for a hike at Snowbird in the Wasatch Mountains. You will take the aerial tram up the mountain and hike back down. If you are not interested in hiking, there are other activities available at Snowbird, including a zip ride, alpine slide, bungee trampoline, climbing wall and mechanical bull ride (Click here for information on all these activities). The aerial tram costs $10 US per person and there are additional costs (between $6 and $9 each) associated with the other activities, except for hiking which is free!
  • Sign up for field trips through the registration site.
