How can we improve project-based strategies and actions for the realities of conservation in a changing climate? The methods and materials found on this page are used by Conservancy staff around the world.
The Conservancy's Climate Change Guidelines
This document is one tool in a suite of tools and approaches being developed by The Nature Conservancy to help practitioners, conservation organizations and decision makers respond to the impacts of climate change around the world. The Guidance Document was prepared by The Nature Conservancy and is based on methods tested at the September 2009 Climate Adaptation Clinic by 20 Nature Conservancy and partner project.- Climate Change Guidance
- Conceptual Models Examples (from the Climate Clinic)
- Final Hypothesis of Change Examples (from the Climate Clinic)
The methods and guidance described above follow the Conservancy’s primary project planning methodology - Conservation Action Planning
Incorporating Climate Change into Systematic Conservation Planning
This paper proposes five approaches to climate change adaptation that can be integrated into existing or new biodiversity conservation plans. It is published in Biodiversity and Conservation (February 2012) and was authored by Craig R. Groves, Edward T. Game, Mark G. Anderson, Molly Cross, Carolyn Enquist, Zach Ferdana, Evan Girvetz, Anne Gondor, Kimberly R. Hall, Jonathan Higgins, Rob Marshall, Ken Popper, Steve Schill, and Sarah L. Shafer. It is available electronically (no subscriptions needed to read it).
Climate Clinic Results: Published Paper
Redesigning biodiversity conservation projects for climate change: examples from the field examines Conservancy adaptation strategies developed at TNC's Climate Adaptation Clinic in 2009. It is published in the peer-reviewed journal Biodiversity and Conservation (December 2010) and was authored by Karen Poiani, Rebecca Goldman, Jennifer Hobson, Kara Nelson and Jonathan Hoekstra. It is available electronically with open-access (no subscriptions needed to read it).
The Conservancy’s Adaptation Primer
This primer is intended to provide an introduction to climate change, identify a set of frequently asked questions, and define commonly used terminology in the climate change community.
Lessons Learned since the 2009 Clinic
In 2010, the Conservancy collected information on processes underway in various projects, created a table to show variation, and held a workshop to gather lessons learned.
