Finch Paper SFI Certification - Audit May 2008

  • One minor non-conformity identified: Finch paper mapping system outdated, has purchased a GIAS system and is currently implementing it
  • Good management practices: strong financial incentive to encourage landowners, dedicated roads unit to carry out BMPs, well constructed in-stream crossings
  • Opportunities for improvement: some contractors not aware of SFI program, FP uses verbal contracts with all round wood suppliers, many landowners don't receive SFI information directly, FP has excellent program for monitoring/inspecting harvest performance but inspection reports not given to wood suppliers/contractors, wood procurement policy not published on website, one site machine entered machine free riparian zone (no harm occurred), wildlife tree recruitment target could be better communicated to foresters, FP should consult with outside inventory experts to ensure recently revised Annual Allowable Cut calculations/assumptions appropriate
