The US-based Nature Conservancy (TNC) collaborated with the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), the Atlantic Canada Conservation Centre (AC CDC), provincial and federal governments, land trusts and other partners to prepare this assessment.

The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. It has protected more than 117 million acres of land and 5,000 miles of river around the world. In New England and New York the Conservancy protects about one quarter-million acres of reserves and over 270,000 acres of easements.

Nature Conservancy of Canada is the only national charity in Canada dedicated to the creation of nature preserves and the conservation of ecologically significant lands. Since 1962 NCC has protected 1.8 million acres of the most imperilled habitat in Canada. NCC has worked with The Nature Conservancy since 1998 to protect high-priority sites within cross-border ecoregions.
