Monitoring is a critical component of the work at Ellsworth Creek. Monitoring of baseline ecological conditions began in 2006 and continued through 2008. Data will be used to provide information on the ecological status of the experimental sub-basins and watershed prior to implementation of restoration treatments. Some indicators being monitored include: forest migratory birds, stream-associated amphibians, benthic macroinvertebrates, stream physical habitat, forest structure and vegetation, spawning coho salmon (
Oncorhynchus kisutch), and juvenile salmonids. LiDAR data has also been collected for the whole watershed. Below are several of the protocols that were used to collect ecological baseline data. For more information on the large-scale watershed restoration experiment occuring at Ellsworth Creek, see the
Ellsworth Creek Introduction and the
Ellsworth Creek Experimental Design and Study Plan. Reports and publications associated with baseline data can be found on the
reports page.
