TNC & Ecosystem Based Adaption
TNC – ACTION ON ALL FRONTS
The Natural Coastal Protection work forms a key research exercise within the Coastal Resilience Programme within TNC’s Global Marine Team and its field-based partners. More broadly, Ecosystem Based Adaptation (EBA) has become a driving motivation for work across TNC and a core strategy for the organisation . We are working around the world from field projects to governmental and global policy work.
Our field projects include the building of oyster reefs in Alabama and restoration of mangrove forests in Grenada , with a critical focus being on their ability to protect shorelines; we are working with communities in Pacific Islands , while at the same time seeking to build the management frameworks to allow ecosystems to continue to function and provide their valuable ecosystem services, such as coastal protection, into the future.
At broader scales we are building tools to help visualise future change, and to empower managers to consider development and adaptation options. We work closely with multiple partners to ensure that policies are being driven by sound science, and that the potentially vital role of nature in climate change adaptation is not forgotten.
