COLLABORATIVE VISION STATEMENT:

The Applegate Watershed supports functioning fire-adapted
systems with abundant and diverse fish and wildlife while
respecting the social and economic goals and values of the
community.

The APPLEGATE watershed   is a unique site for its ecological diversity and range of community partnerships. The area occupies a small but central position in Siskiyou Mountains in southwest Oregon and part of the KlamathMountains Ecoregion that straddles the Oregon-California border. The Applegate supports the northwest temperate forests that are home to the northern spotted owl and the Siskiyou Mountain salamander. The area also contributes cool, clear water to one of the more important Pacific coastal salmon rearing grounds. The influence of a Mediterranean climate, rain shadow of the coast range and diversity of soils supports a complex array of dry, fire-maintained forests, woodland, chaparral and grassland, along with rare serpentine systems and plants of the Josephine peridotite sheet.
