Message from Stewardship Program

Stewardship is more than reforestation, timber harvesting or improving a forest. It is an investment in the future. Forest stewardship introduces landowners to innovative land management options.

State Forestland Statistics:

  • Total Forest Land = 382,000 acres or 30% of total land area
  • Privately owned = 276,000 acres of 82% of the forested land area
  • Number of NIPF Landowners = 17,300
  • Total State Forest = 15,000 acres
  • Other State Ownership = 30,000 acres
  • U. S. Government Lands = 1,887 acres
  • Industry = 20,000 acres
  • Conservation Organizations= 16,000 acres
  • Other (county, city, NGO) = 24,513 acres
  • Total Other Forest = 15,000

Stewardship in Delaware:

  • Number of Stewardship Landowners = 1,625
  • Number of stewardship Plans = 1,717
  • Total Stewardship Acres = 36,430 acres
