Message from Stewardship Program
The Maine Forest Stewardship Program is but one of the programs of the Maine Forest Service that "...helps you make informed decisions about Maine's Forests". We do this through:
- Promotion of the stewardship concept at forestry field days, woodlot owner meetings, and other public forums;
- Cost-share assistance for professional forest management planning through our Forest Stewardship Assistance Program;
- Professional development training opportunities for natural resources professionals, including workshops, field sessions, and a quarterly newsletter;
- Stewardship education grants to various non-profit organizations to promote forestry education for adults and children at the local level;
- The presentation of annual "Outstanding Forest Steward" awards to those individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to forest stewardship in Maine, through their advocacy of Stewardship principles, through their work with landowners, and by example on their own lands; and
- Ongoing development of information and materials of practical use to small woodlot owners and natural resource professionals.
