Message from Stewardship Program

The first step toward a healthy, productive woodland is a Forest Stewardship Plan. Foresters are available in every county to provide management plans for woodland owners. Forest Stewardship Plans are designed to achieve the specific landowner's objective, provides an inventory of forest cover and wildlife habitat and recommendations for management.

State Forestland Statistics:

  • Total forested acres= 15,447,550
  • Privately owned=11,926,867 acres
  • Industry=1,537,397 acres
  • Government= 1,983,286

Stewardship in Virginia:

  • Number of stewardship plans = 5570
  • Acres covered by stewardship plans=840,289
