Where available, cartographic map documents have been saved as Adobe Acrobat pdf files. Click the link under "map document" to open or download the map document to your hard drive. Although the pdf maps may appear fuzzy on your screen, they should print clearly. Pdf maps may also be inserted into powerpoint presentations by cutting and pasting from the pdf document.

Many of the GIS data layers in this workspace are formatted for quick reference using the Google Earth viewer. After installing Google Earth, click the link under "view GIS data" to open the chosen GIS file.

Some data are provided in ESRI personal geodatabase, shapefile, or grid format. These are suitable for use and analysis with ArcGIS. Data may also be provided as ArcReader (.pmf) documents which will allow users to view and navigate through the spatial dataset without ArcGIS software (requires free ArcReader viewer available from ESRI) Geoprocessing models may also be available. Click the link under "download data" to retrieve any of these types of  files.

Some documents and datasets may be restricted from general distribution. If you require access to documents and you are unable to open or download them, please contact Ty Guthrie

If you would like to request a new map, please send an email to Ty Guthrie. Please provide the following information.

• Primary themes to be displayed (e.g. ecoregions, portfolios, Major Habitat Types).
• Base themes to be displayed (e.g. elevation, roads, rivers).
• Extent - what area does the map cover?
• Scale - if it's a paper map, how large (e.g. 8.5 X 11, poster) or is it scaled for use in powerpoint?
• Annotation - which features need to be labeled (e.g. ecoregions, river names)?
• What elements should be explained with a legend?
• What should the title say?
• What fonts and text sizes should be used for labels, titles and legends?
• What colours should be used for various map elements? Should the TNC colour palette be used?
• Are there any other symbology requirements (e.g. rendering of highways, transparent overlays)?
• What is the presentation format - paper, pdf or powerpoint - each has different requirements for optimizing the colours, scale and text.
• Are there any additional text, tables or charts that may be needed to explain or highlight the map's message?
