The following are some guidelines to help you prepare. There will be a strict 15 minute limit to the presentation. You should assume that the participants have reviewed your narrative report and ConPro record. Please remember that slides with only a few points or bullets and/or a graphic to illustrate your point will generally be a better communication device than a slide with many words and bullets. I. Background (no more than 3 minutes; approx. 3 slides) Brief background information on the project. If your project is relatively large in spatial scale and has numerous strategies being implemented at a variety of temporal and spatial scales or consists of multiple sub-projects, please provide a brief overview of the larger project in order to place the strategy (below) for which you have developed detailed measures in context. If you presented your project at the 2008 Strategy Effectiveness Workshop in Boulder, please briefly summarize either in the introduction or in the sections below the progress that you made over the last year in implementing and improving your measures program. II. Assessing Strategy Effectiveness Strategy and theory of change (1-2 slides) Briefly describe the strategy or closely-associated set of strategies selected for peer review and the rationale for selecting it. Briefly explain your theory of change for the strategy. A good theory of change captures the logic of change, including identifying the key actors and the necessary and sufficient interventions needed to achieve the goal, and articulates the key assumptions and risks that must be met or managed in order to achieve the goal. Presenting a results chain to illustrate your theory of change is strongly discouraged because they are generally too complex to be easily grasped in a short amount of time and consequently are a poor communication tool for presentations. Measurable Objectives (1-2 slides) Describe the ultimate objective(s) your strategy is intended to achieve (e.g., threat abatement or biodiversity improvement), and the most important intermediate objectives (e.g., policy change, management plan implemented) towards which you will track progress. Indicators and Monitoring Plan: (~3 slides) Describe the principal question(s) that your monitoring plan is attempting to answer. Summarize the most important indicators you are using to track progress on objectives. A good rule of thumb is to highlight show-stoppers or indicators which could cause you to reassess whether the strategy requires a change in course or should be abandoned all together. Briefly summarize the monitoring plan (either that you have in place or plan to develop and implement) for collecting information on the indicators including an outline of the sampling design (if appropriate). Reference your assessment of risk and leverage for the strategy (show figure from narrative). Mention whether and how this influenced your decision of much to invest in measures and monitoring. III. Using Monitoring Results Monitoring results: (1-2 slides) If your project already has analyzed monitoring results, please provide an example including a brief interpretation of the implications of the results for the strategy IV. Advancing Measures Mention the 1-2 most significant barriers for evaluating the effectiveness of the strategies and actions in your projects (i.e., implementing strategy effectiveness measures). ;<=r D P y e f g w 1 E ʾʾʂ{w{soskh+fhihgNhXx h+fhh39h/`hBx>* h/`>* hO5 hL 5 h5 hRfJ5 h8r5h/`h/`5 h/`5 h55h/`hBx5h/`hBxhL hL 5CJaJhBz5CJaJhL hBx5CJaJhL hL 5CJaJhl*=> f g " # H s .QX & FgdCl & FgdO & F 8^8gdXx & FgdL & Fgd/` & Fgd39$a$gdL 9 !
