DESCRIPTION
Aquatic invasive species, a leading cause of decline in global biodiversity, is attracting increasing conservation resources. Introductions occur via four main pathways - shipping, commerce in live trades, artificial hydrologic connections, and recreational boating. This session describes management efforts at federal, regional, and state levels that are focused on preventing new invasions. Effective management of this threat also requires management of established invaders. This session will provide an overview of this topic and present two case studies that demonstrate some early successes and the social and technological challenges facing development of effective integrated pest management in aquatic ecosystems. Speakers include Lindsay Chadderton (TNC), Paul Marangelo (TNC), Tom Iseman (TNC) - Yampa River (CO, USA)/ Upper Colorado Fish Recovery Program (CO, USA).
