DESCRIPTION
State and local water policy must be aligned with conservation values in order to achieve truly sustainable water management. Both TNC and WWF have become engaged in influencing this foundation so as to improve opportunities for conservation. This session will highlight some of this experience and share the challenges inherent in such efforts. Speakers include Leslie Bach (TNC) - examples from Oregon (OR, USA), Michele Dephilip (TNC) - steps toward environmental flow criteria in Pennsylvania rivers (PA, USA), Anthony Saracino (TNC) - examples in California (CA, USA), Jason Skold (TNC) - examples from Nebraska / Missouri River (NE, USA), Robert Wigington - dedicating conserved irrigation water to environmental flows under western state water laws (USA), and Wendy Smith (WWF US) - Tennessee state water authorities.
